I guess we can't get enough of the Zoo. Xen and his class took a field trip to the Zoo. Heidi was a chaparone and I just tagged along and took pictures.

Xen's school had a unique presentation. A rehabilitation center brought in one of their 20 animals that they rehabilitate.
It was a 120 lb wolf. Half timber wolf and half Alaskian wolf. He was awesome.

This evening the Colorado Springs Zoo had their annual Boo Zoo function. It started at 6:00 p.m. and went until 9:00 p.m. They passed out candy to the kids, and advertisements to the adults. Xen had a great time. He met up with some of his school friends and was off like a bolt of lightening.
The kids he met up with have lived here in the Colorado Springs area for most of their lives. They knew the Zoo quite well. We saw some things we did not see the on our first visit.
We saw the hugh hippos, and the primmate exhibits.

Today we left early in the morning to feed the horses. Then we were off to Pike's Peak. More exact, The Summit. As we drove toward the massive rock, we had no idea just how large it was. It took us about 35 minutes to reach the National Forest where the montain resides. We paid our fee and off we went. The roads had snow and mud everywhere. No gaurd rails! Just a scenic view of the mountain side. And where you would end up if you accidentally went off the road.

Xen had to get out and play in the snow. He couldn't wait until we reached the The Summit.

We drove a brisk 15 miles per hour. It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to reach the top. Xen was feeling sick to his stomach. Not sure if it was the the air or the viewing of the straight down drop from the road. After we reached the top, Heidi was feeling light headed. How she could tell the difference (she is a blonde), I will never know. :) But the view was awesome!

We took some pictures like tourists. When we got out of the car, we could smell donuts. Yes donuts! We thought we were all just light headed... until we walked inside.

Why are they world Famous? Because the dough is especially made for the altitude. Normal donuts will not rise at 14000 feet above sea level. These do! |

On October 8th we signed up for the meat delivery program. That's right, Heidi... or I will be cooking on a regular basis. We are trying to get healthier. We are much closer to many restuarants here then we were in Florida, but Heidi wants us all to "Get Healthier"!
So, today, Heidi cooked her first real meal. She did a great job! Not only was the food great. But look at the presentation.... ooh haa!!

We have our first snow! Xen was so excited, he didn't want to eat breakfast before going out in it. In fact he did want to wait until the Sun was up.

I am at my computer at 9:00 p.m. working on a website, when I hear my wife yelling for me to come up stairs. She is now whispering, LOOK! LOOK! Pointing at our back porch. Standing on all fours is a BIG Black Bear, sniffing around. He stood about 4 foot tall while walking on all four paws. I would guess he was around 400-500 lbs. I ran down stairs to get the camera. I took two shots of the bear on our back porch. I went down stairs to load them on to the blog. My wife had removed the memory stick. I did not get the picture.
Oh but we will. And when we do... I will post here for all to see. |

My wife had Xen and I up early getting ready to head out to the Rocky Mountains this morning. She thought it would be approximately an hour and half to get there. My way of the Crow, maybe. But through the twisting mountains it took us two and half hours. But it was worth every minute.

As we were coming out of the mountains, we saw ELK.

We hiked for about two hours. We were sore. But not ready to quit.

We started back home around 5:30 p.m. and as we were going through a small town we noticed people pulling off the road up ahead. As we came upon them, we saw what it was drawing all the attention. ELK! That's right... ELK in the middle of town. They were laying down on golf courses, businesses front yards and walking across the streets.
