5th Grade Band
Leave comment
Xen had his first Band recital. There were about 25 kids that were in the band. Xen sat all the way in the back. We could see only his feet. He was 4 rows back. The only time I saw him is when the teacher told the kids to stand that moved here from another State. He stood up and had a big smile on his face. Six other kids stood with him.

Xen plays the Trumpet in the band. He does quite well for his first year of playing.

After the recital, we were treated to cookies and punch. A great time was had by all.

No longer a Teen!

I am feeling soooooooooooo old. My beautiful and extremely bright daughter turned 20 years old today. We called her on her cell phone and sung happy birthday to her. We don't sing in the traditional sense. We sing as bad as we possibly can. Out of tune, missing words, loud, soft, and just down right awful.

We miss her not being here with us in Colorado. But that is part of growing up, putting roots where she wants to plant them.

Happy Birthday honey!!! Love you! And I mean it!!!

Christmas cooking

Xen made Christmas cookies for the family. They were great! That boy can cook! They were sugar cookies covered with butter icing. I love them.

5 miles an hour

On my home from work today, at 2:30 pm, I ran into snowy and icy conditions. It took me 3.5 hours to get home. It usually takes 1.25 hours from door to door. Do I miss Florida??? NO!!!! I still love it here.

The TV states that this is not typical weather for this time of year. Records are being broken all across the Nation.

We are sticking it out, for this year.

Christmas right around the corner

Xen is in a boys and girls choir. Three schools in the district participate. His group had a Christmas performance at one of the local High Schools.

It was a great performance. The choir sung funny songs, humble songs and traditional Christmas songs.

Shovel Fulls

First thing this morning I was up and shoveling the new fallen snow. The driveway was a bit icy. But I did not fall this time. Heidi, Xen and I went to see a movie called the "AeonFlux". Heidi was bored... but Xen and I enjoyed it.

We purchased some rock salt to put down in our driveway so I could drive the F-150 to the street. I drove... or should I say... rode the F-150 to the street like a sled. Not much traction on ice. I made it safely.

The sun is going down as I write this blog/journal entry. It is getting cooler... but I love it!

Snow Man

We all woke up this morning to find 8 inches of snow on the ground. It feels so much like Christmas! The temperature was 30 degrees with no wind. The flakes were light and fluffy. Xen was out sledding down our driveway into the street, first thing in the morning. We made snow balls and had a snow ball fight. It was great!

I drove the car down the driveway and had no breaks. I ran into the bank of the driveway at the bottom. It was scary but exciting at the same time. We had to leave the car on the street at the bottom of the driveway after returning from feeding the horses.

I even fell while walking down the driveway to the car when we went out to the grocery store.

Xen and I shoveled the walk and driveway. But this brings back some great childhood memories.

At bedtime, we made hot chocolate and sat by the fire place. I am sure this is making great childhood memories for Xen.

Hockey Puck

Xen, along with his choir group from school, sang the National Anthem at the Air Force Academy hockey game. As they were singing, you could hear a pin drop. The crowd was very respectful and enjoyed the young ones singing their lungs out. Afterwards, we stayed and watched the game.

The crowds are much more subdued here in Colorado. That is until the Air Force boys showed up at the second quarter. They brought some life into the somewhat docile crowd.

The Air Force lost 3-4. But it was a good game. Two referees were taken off the field with injuries to the face. One was accidentally hit with a hockey stick. The other was hit with a players elbow. Both returned after making sure they were okay.
